FIT Astrid Lindgren 2011, recipient

FIT “Astrid Lindgren” Prize for children’s literature in translation 2011
Jury chair:  Professor Peter Bush, UK/Catalonia

Recipient: Ms Kaisa Kattelus

By: Finnish Association of Translators and Interpreters - SKTL
For: A lifetime’s work

Jury commentary:
The Finnish candidate, has
worked in the field for many years and
has a large number of titles to her credit, the overwhelming majority being fantasy works for children and young people.
Nearly 70 titles in 15 years is an impressive record for anyone, ….., one juror can personally vouch for at least a few of those being no lightweights.
In addition, she has:
  • a record of teaching literature and translation, as well as
  • serving on professional bodies, and
  • has been awarded several prizes, all of which points to her
  • being a valued member of her own literary community. She would hence seem to be just the sort of candidate the Astrid Lindgren prize is meant to reward.
  Jury’s decision: unanimous
